Reframe for YouTube
Privacy policy

Your data stays with you.

Reframe changes how YouTube looks in your browser. It has no account, no server and no tracking. It never sends your data anywhere you haven't already sent it.

0ServersNothing to sign up for, nowhere for data to go
0TrackersNo analytics, telemetry or crash reports

Where everything goes

Everything the extension handles takes one of these three paths. Nothing else leaves your browser.

Your browserwhere Reframe runs

Stays on your device Never uploaded

Saved in Chrome's extension storage on your computer. It isn't synced or uploaded, and no one else can read it.

Your settingsPopup switches, layouts, language
Things you makeCollections, feed tags, muted words
A recent copy of your listsSubscriptions, playlists, uploads, for up to 7 days
Your place in ShortsCleared when the tab closes

Goes to YouTube Same as without Reframe

To build pages such as the Subscriptions timeline, Explore, Collections and TV Mode, the extension asks YouTube for the same information youtube.com asks for. It asks from inside the page you have open and uses your existing sign-in. Google's privacy policy covers these requests. Reframe never reads, stores or sends your cookies, password or account details.

Goes to Return YouTube Dislike Only if you turn it on

Show dislike counts · off by default

With the switch on, the extension asks the independent Return YouTube Dislike service for estimated like and dislike counts. It sends nothing about you, only the public ID of each video:

videoId=dQw4w9WgXcQ No name, account or history

Like any website, the service can see your IP address. Its own policy applies. The answers are kept for 30 minutes and are deleted when the browser closes. Turn the switch off and no more requests are made.

What Reframe never does

Analytics Tracking pixels Ads Selling data Remote code Other websites

Everything the extension runs is in the package you install. It is only active on www.youtube.com and doesn't read any other site.

What it asks Chrome for, and why

Runs on youtube.com

To restyle YouTube and add the redesigned pages. It doesn't run on any other site.

storage

To remember your settings, collections and recent lists on your device.

returnyoutubedislikeapi.com

Only used when Show dislike counts is on, and only for public video IDs.

1 click

Delete everything

Removing the extension deletes everything it saved. To keep it installed but start fresh, clear its data from chrome://extensions.

Children

Reframe isn't aimed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

Updates to this policy are posted here with a new date. If a change would send a new kind of data off your device, the extension will ask you first.
